The colored regions on the map represent predicted aurora intensity:
- Green: Possible aurora visibility
- Yellow: Likely aurora activity
- Red: Strong aurora expected
The brighter the color, the stronger the expected aurora display.
OVATION Model
The Ovation Prime model predicts aurora locations based on:
- Current solar wind conditions
- Interplanetary magnetic field
- Particle precipitation patterns
- Historical aurora observations
Maps update every 30 minutes with latest NOAA data.
Best Viewing Times
Aurora is typically most visible:
- Between 10 PM and 2 AM local time
- During geomagnetic storms (high KP index)
